Coffee Morning and Community Library notes…

Although it fell on the very first day of November, this month's coffee morning was buzzing and happy. Thank you to everyone who comes along.

Our Book of the Month is a Reader's Choice, by way of a change. This book is thoroughly and enthusiastically recommended and is waiting for you at the December Library - Ashes of London by multi-award-winning Andrew Taylor, it is the No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller. Set in London in 1666 in the aftermath of The Great Fire, this is a well-researched and complex murder mystery steeped in the intrigue and politics of the time. 'Smell the smoke and feel the heat.'

I (Vivien) am very grateful to Jane who has stepped up to take over the Community Library. Do please come along and give her your support and encourage her to keep it going. And just a reminder that it is free to join. We do quite a few things behind the scenes to keep your library interesting and to maintain a wide and varied range of books - as much as we can within the limitations of our storage space. It is a facility for the community and does not happen by magic, so please consider popping along to see what we offer or, indeed to make suggestions of books or genres that you would like to have available, fiction and non-fiction. Now we are not so closely under the umbrella of the public library, we have more autonomy so can perhaps meet your needs better.

And just a reminder about all the other reasons to come along: a chance to talk informally to a member of the Parish Council (David Penfold and/or Mary Philo); find out immediately if you have won when the Village 500 is drawn or, indeed, buy your ticket; meet and make friends; support local charities by buying delicious cake and coffee; check out the Pett Puzzles upstairs and maybe borrow a jigsaw puzzle now the evenings are drawing in. It is also the place to have your hearing aid checked and its battery changed, should you need such a facility. Please ask if you would prefer to have a table outside, although the weather has not been favourable of late.

Next Coffee Morning 10 - 12 Wednesday 6th December.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas
