Coffee Morning and Community Library notes…

Our August Coffee Morning was Summer-quiet. We set up a table for coffee chums in a quieter space, but even that was surplus to requirements. At the Library, we took in more returned books than we lent out, although we could have lent Richard Osman's The Bullet That Missed twice over. Happily, we will have an extra copy of that from September.

Also from September, we are reintroducing large print books. These will be found on the Recent Arrivals shelves. They include romance, historical fiction such as The Great Deception by Australian actress Joyce Chambers, mystery in The House of Silk, a Sherlock Holmes novel unexpectedly written by Anthony Horowitz, as well as a wartime mystery A Bespoke Murder by Edward Marston. We are also adding to the shelves an Andy McNab thriller Silencer, Bill Bryson's biography of Shakespeare and Billy Hopkins Anything Goes, a humorous memoir of bringing up a family in the 1960s, amongst others. Michael Bond, better known for Paddington Bear, also wrote a series of comic detective novels of which we have Monsieur Pamplemousse and the Carbon Footprint. Who wouldn't enjoy a farcical detective story with haute cuisine and a bloodhound called Pommes Frites? Even in large print it is a very modestly sized book, so super-easy to read.

Hopefully, there is something here that appeals to you? Lastly, but far from least, we now have a copy of the charming book On the Level Pett Level Then and Now by Keith Swallow. Books of local interest are always popular, so if you would like to borrow this beautifully and copiously illustrated tome, do come early to the next Coffee Morning and Community Library on 6th September, 10 - 12 at the Village Hall.
